What is identity development, and what does it have to do with Step Up?
For students to be fully engaged in school, they must first find it relevant, and that starts with their identity. Step Up aims to develop students’ identities through activities like writing, where students can ponder about who they are; TaeKwonDo, where students learn that a strong mindset and healthy body are necessary for success; and cultural exploration day, where students are able to experience new worlds. Through these activities, they are able to reflect on their identity and create a deeper sense of appreciation for oneself and others.
